Corgi announced their 'Ultimate Collector' on Thursday 20th July 2006 at a very special birthday party at the Corgi offices in Leicester, UK.
The day started out with a showcase of the latest Bond cars from the new Casino Royale film parked on the forecourt of the Corgi offices - click here to see a video of the cars. The new Aston Martin Vanquish from the film featured two machine guns on the bonnet and four missiles protruding from the grill - a fearsome grunt howled out when it started up. A classic DB5 with the apt number plate 'JB 007' majestically sat next to the DBS. Many say this was the best ever Bond car and it's clear to see why.
Next was a BBQ followed by a speech and toast from Managing Director Dave Turner who also cut the Corgi birthday cake. Barnardos - Corgi's named charity for their 50th year - were also presented with a cheque for £3,120. A Corgi balloon race and auction were also held on the day in aid of the charity which raised even more money to help Barnardos support children, young people and their families. Ten 'Ultimate Collector' finalists were chosen but only one winner could claim the title of Ultimate Corgi Collector. Jamie Breese from ITVs 'Everything Must Go' daytime show, presented the award to the collector he believed had a unique approach to collecting Corgi - Tim Healy. Tim not only treasures his Corgi collection but also likes to take photos of his models in real life scenes, creating engaging backdrops bringing the models to life. He then posts them up on to his website for everyone to see. Congratulations to Tim who now gets the once in a lifetime chance to visit the Corgi factory in Hong Kong. 11 year old Aaron Jackson, one of the finalists was also presented with a special 'Future of Corgi Collector' award after being nominated by his Mother. He demonstrated commitment to the Corgi brand with a very colourful display of models and showed enormous future collecting promise.
